Cherry blossoms are (rightly) among the most popular ornamental trees, but many people think they don’t have the room for one. Think again…
We’ve taken a naturally dwarf weeping variety, ‘Kiku-shidare-zakura’, and trained it in such a way that you can grow your own cherry blossom from a sunny patio or balcony!
With a quick and easy yearly prune, you can keep your tree to just 1.5m (or shorter) in height, meaning even the most space-limited of gardens can enjoy the delightful springtime blossoms.
From April, the pendulous, weeping branches bear abundant double blossoms in pastel and carnation pink, while the green leaves take on wonderful bronze and orange hues come autumn.
Please note that young trees often don’t have a weeping shape, particularly when they arrive early in the year after being pruned – but hold tight and that unique form will develop over time.
