Biting into a juicy nectarine on a hot summer’s day is hard to beat. With their sumptous sweetness and colourful appearance, the only thing that’s impressive as these fruits is the beautiful spring blossoms that precede them!
‘Flavortop’ is a truly exceptional variety, boasting delicious fruits with as much flavour as you’d hope from a cultivar bearing that moniker.
A self-fertile fruit tree, you only need the one plant in order to bear a good crop of fruit (which is ready to harvest from the end of summer into early autumn). You can, however, plant another nectarine tree nearby if you want a really bumper yield.
Besides eating them fresh, you can use your nectarines in an upside-down cake, roast them in fortified wine and serve with vanilla ice cream, or grill them to go in with a burrata summertime salad.
Nectarine trees have been designated by the RHS as one of their Plants for Pollinators, indicating their benefits to pollinating insects like bees and butterflies.
