Rhus typhina ‘Laciniata’ is a tree you just can’t walk past without taking a closer look! The leaves are like lacy ferns, deeply divided with up to twenty seven leaflets. In spring and summer these are a lush sap green, but the real show starts in autumn, when they turn to jawdropping shades of red, orange and yellow
Female trees will develop small, yellow-green cones of flowers from late spring into early summer which are followed by distinctive clusters of deep red fruits
An ideal tree for a small garden, growing to just 4m tall and spreading 6m, but can be pruned to fit your space perfectly. Laciniata looks particularly lovely in cottage gardens (it won’t overwhelm your perennials), coastal areas (it copes well with salty air), beds and borders
Low maintenance, fully hardy and loves a sunny planting position
