With its deep burgundy-to-purple, five-lobed leaves and attractive bushy habit, Crimson King is a maple cultivar most definitely worthy of that moniker.
The definition of a multi-season deciduous tree, this maple takes on scorching shades of red, bronze and orange in autumn, as well as boasting earthy, reddish flowers in spring.
Fully hardy, easily pruned to just three or four metres in height, and tolerant of urban pollution, this variety is an excellent choice for city gardens and roadside plantings.
The Norway maple, Acer platanoides, is one of the Royal Horticultural Societys Plants for Pollinators, indicating its worth to bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects.
A deserving recipient of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, Crimson King has been recognised as performing very well in UK gardens.
