Known for its vibrant summer berries, which start a vivid red before deepening to an intense purple, these fruits are incredibly popular with birds, and can also be used to make delicious jams and jellies!
Preceding the appearance of the berries, this tree bears a profusion of starry white flowers and bronze-tinged young leaves in spring, which make this one of the best trees you can plant for springtime interest.
Come autumn, the foliage takes on outstanding fiery shades of red, orange and yellow, giving the tree the appearance of a flame roaring beautifully in the garden (just without the danger).
A tough (yet graceful) and bushy tree, and tolerating a wide range of soil, this amelanchier is ideal for an exposed or difficult position in the garden. The berries are also known asjuneberries and serviceberries.
