A spectacularly showy cherry blossom, ‘Candy Floss’ (sometimes known by its Japanese name, ‘Matsumae-beni-murasaki’) wows with its fully double, voluminous pink blooms.
Alongside the fantastic flowers, the tree also has attractive foliage; starting out with a bronze shimmer, the leaves develop into a fully green colour before finishing up in autumn with fiery shades of orange.
An interesting feature of this variety is the almost velvety texture the flowers take on as they get older. The petals have a scallop-like frill to them which further adds to their textural quality.
Fully hardy in nature, ‘Candy Floss’ will easily withstand whatever the British winter can throw at it. Just plant in well-drained soil in a sunny position and your tree will thrive.
Growing to an ultimate height of around five metres or so, this medium-sized tree will make an excellent feature tree, or planted as part of a Japanese-style planting scheme.
